Looking Back to 2017 with Renegade Game Studios!

Posted by Renegade Game Studios on Aug 15th 2024

In honor of our 10th Anniversary, we’re looking back to Renegade’s journey since its founding. Take a look back with us to see what we were up to in 2017!

Dan Bojanowski joined the Renegade team in 2017 as the Senior Producer of Board & Card Games. Dan had a long history in the games business, including Vendor Liaison at Publisher Services, Inc., Sr. Product Manager at Upper Deck, and Brand Manager at Decipher. Dan had worked with Renegade President Scott Gaeta at Decipher and Upper Deck. In an interview with ICV2, Gatea is quoted as saying:

"Dan brings over 15 years of experience working on some of the biggest licensed brands in tabletop gaming to Renegade… I’ve worked with Dan before and am excited to be working with him again."

Renegade rolled out some great games in 2017, one of them being the hit game, The Fox in The Forest, designed by Joshua Buergel. Renegade worked with Foxtrot Games to publish this best-selling trick-taking game of fantasy and fun. The Fox in the Forest has been recognized and awarded numerous times, being named a Spiel des Jahres recommended game in 2020, the 2017 Board Game Quest Award Best Two-Player Game, and more! Now on its 21st printing, this game is still the favorite small box game of many gamers.

Also published in 2017 was Sentient! Designed by J. Alex Kevern, in Sentient, players must program robots in their factories to attract investors and patrons. Draft cards to manipulate your dice and collect investors for your technology. Sentient would be named as a Mensa Recommended game and is still loved by many.

Another great game to come out of 2017 was Ex Libris, designed by Adam P. Mclver. This bookish board game challenges players to collect books to impress the judges and become the next Grand Librarian. This great game enjoyed a handful of print runs and won awards such as the 2018 Origins Award for Best Card Game and 2018 Mensa Select Winner before going out of print. But in 2023, Renegade brought Ex Libris back and made it better than ever before! Ex Libris Second Edition is available here!

Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Card Game designed by Keith Baker was another hit from 2017. Published in collaboration with Oni Press, this deck-building game allowed players to assume the roles of their favorite characters and create their own Scott Pilgrim storyline! Renegade took part in many fun community events for this game including game signings and interviews.

And of course, who could forget about Scott Pilgrim vs The Garlic Noodles!

2017 was an exciting year for Renegade! We'll be back next month with more Renegade History!
