Ran my first game of this, and I love this system
I just ran my first session volunteering at my local library. The age range was 13-17 with 9 players. It was my first time running the system, but with preparation I was able to have world and character creation done in just over an hour, which for 9 teenagers at a table I think is a pretty good pace. I did forget some rules in character creation, but it didn’t ruin anything. By the time our two hour session was up, they had just gotten on their bikes to head to the first destination. Which sounds like “oh no, we didn’t get through any of the story!”, and while that is true, that’s because a room of 9 teenagers were actively building the world and talking about their characters, and as their characters. This game excels at naturally getting players invested in the world, and is a great tool to get comfortable with and improve at roleplay, as it encourages players to think about the world and environment more from the character’s perspective. And if a player didn’t want to roleplay, it was super easy for me to just jump in and describe what I’m thinking, check with them, and then I describe the scenario with their input majorly influencing the description. I can not overstate how impressed I am that only 4 people rolled more than twice, and everyone came out of the session pretty enthusiastic. I only had 2 players out of nine who I wasn’t super confident they were invested, but even then, they had a good time building the world, and talking with the group. (With larger groups, I can not recommend splitting them up enough, I have one group roleplay while working with the other, and then when I’m done with that group, gauge when to jump in with the second group, or have them signal you. This allows for very little downtime where you’re sitting around waiting, and it also helps to not make everything a loud conversational mess, as each group is either roleplaying or working with me for how they move on.) I understand that I haven’t played extensively yet, but after just worldbuilding and character creation, I was already sold on loving this system. Can not recommend enough, especially for newer players, or those who might need improvement in roleplay, but I adore this system as someone who’s been in the space for 12 years, this system is not just for kids/teens or new players. If you like the roleplay, storytelling, and worldbuilding aspects of tabletop games, this system very well might be for you.
