Chana began life as all Zenithwings do on Arboreas: as a small writhing tendril covered in thorns. After her initial feeding on berries and sap, she inched her way up the side of a thousand-foot tree to dangle from a high bough, where she and a host of her siblings grew hard cone-like shells and waited for the winter to pass. When spring came, she stretched out beautiful new wings from within the thorny exterior and took flight, sailing through the treetops into the wind.

Zenithwings are prized as familiars among the Dryan for their ability to heal and soothe afflictions, and when Chana was summoned by the Valkyrie Ullar to Valhalla, she was assigned to the ancient Dryan Halushia. He was a cantankerous old creature, and his mind wandered as freely as his hooves. But under Chana’s watch his condition improved, and he threatened to behead his allies less often. But he is gone now, and only Chana knows that he is away helping the exiled archmage Sonlen in blatant disregard of Ullar’s orders. For Ullar is not well, and that is where Chana’s attention has been directed.

In his halls, she hops from one high wooden chair to the next, keeping an eye on the Valkyrie as he paces in a haze. At times, he will sit and allow her to come close, rest a hand upon her crest while she resonates with song and feels the intricate network of his veins and heart. The darkness that seeps through his body travels in his blood, infiltrating the corridors of his mind. She can knit together flesh with a melody, but she can only ease Ullar’s suffering as the poison courses through him, and hope that Sonlen and Halushia will return with a cure in hand before it is too late.
